SPCA Recommends Charges in McBride Horse Case

January 26, 2009

The BC SPCA has recommended charges against Edmonton lawyer Frank Mackay, 63, owner of two horses abandoned last winter near McBride, BC, according to a press release issued today.

The recommended charges have been expected for some time and mean that Mackay could face 6 months in jail, $5,000 fine, and a prohibition against owning animals.

When I spoke with BC SPCA animal protection officer Debby Goodine last week, she said a time frame for the Crown actually laying charges depends on the Crown’s case load. They could occur as early as within a couple of weeks.
